Emergencies

Emergencies happen. When they do, it’s nice to know that your child will be treated with an extra measure of care and compassion. The best thing to do is to stay as calm as possible and to call our office as soon as possible. Some emergencies require immediate treatment, while others can safely wait until the next business day.

Emergencies that require an immediate call:

  • A knocked out permanent tooth

  • A tooth or teeth pushed into the gums from a fall or other trauma

  • Swollen cheeks, face, or eyes

If a permanent tooth is knocked out, please follow these instructions. We may be able to save the tooth, but every minute counts!

  1. Find the tooth

  2. Hold the tooth by the crown, not the root. If its dirty, rinse it with milk. But DO NOT scrub the root.

  3. Try to replace the tooth in the socket.

  4. Have your child hold the tooth in place by biting down on a gauze pad or washcloth.

  5. If it is not possible to replace the tooth, place the tooth in a cup of milk

  6. Call our office immediately at 816-746-5437
